Why am I being charged £200.00 for an electrical certificate
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.31 PM
I am having my kitchen upgraded and want the fridge/freezer integrated into the cabinets. I have been told I shall have to pay £200.00 for a certificate for this to be done. Why? I already have a fridge freezer in exactly the same space and the only difference is that it will be enclosed in a kitchen cabinet.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

What sort of certificate are they going to give you? This is ridiculous. I would send this lot packing and get a better and more honest contractor in to do it.

Just use another electrician. All you need to pay for is the labour to put the new fridge in.

The certificate is required to prove that the cabling and fixers are meeting regulations and as having a kitchen upgrade maybe additional work will be carried on circuits that will need to be certified.
The EICR or Electrical Inspection Condition Report can find any faults in the wiring in your home and give recommendations.
Home owners should have one done every 10 years may help with insurance premiums
Rentals 5 years or change of tenant and Houses of multiple occupancy it is yearly.
These reports are good as highlight anything that could be dangerous in your wiring which could cause a fire.
Without seeing distribution board, wiring its hard to say but if old wiring prudent suggestion

Hi.
Without knowing the full details of the job it sounds likely that some alterations to the circuit will have to be made. As the appliance is going to be integrated you would have to make the socket accessible or install a fused switch that's accessible go isolate the socket for the appliance. This then needs to be tested and a certificate needs to be provided.
