How can I tile my open living space that’s cantilevered

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

I currently have floorboards I’m looking to either fit porcelain tiles or karndean ( can’t decide) plus wet underfloor heating system however I still need to be open external doors within the house so can’t raise the floor to much,,, please can I have some advise on floor prep as worried about tiles cracking , ( can I also point out my house is upside down as some would say) so bedrooms are underneath- so will weight need to be considered ? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Screw 3 to 6mm ply wood to floor boards to stabilise and stop them bouncing putting the screws at least every 12 inches minimum

Hi its always difficult to answer a structural question without seeing the problems.I would say the best solution is to use tile adhesive to stick tile backer board of a thickness of 12mm+ screwed down with galvinised washers. This would be a light weight solution and sound proof. Hope this helps.

Use 6mm Hardiebacker cement based board as this has the strength of 12mm plywood
