Bricklaying & Repointing

Do I need to spray cement mixture during this hot weather

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM

Hi everyone. I have recently re pointed garden wall patio stones (that retain soil). I did this using 1 part BLUE CIRCLE MASTERCRETE cement mixed with 4 part soft builders sand. (I hope this was correct mixture for re-laying stones?) My question is, do I need to keep spraying the mixture with water now that I have done the re-laying? And for how long do I need to do this for? The temperate is currently 28C, so very hot. Many thanks guys and I appreciate your feedback. Regards, David

Don’t Spray or saturate let it dry naturally so it’s set. If your wall is made natural stone there should of been hydrated/hydronic lime powder add to the mix too much cement will corrode the stone far quicker

i would cover the wall with damp hessian in the hot part of the day ,as the intense heat canevaperate the water content in your mortor mix .

If the work is already done you could prob wet some hesian and try to keep the work cool by draping it over that will keep the temperature down from personal experience I try not to use cement In temperatures that exceed 25 degrees it can completely bake it and speed up the setting process

Dampen the wall prior to pointing helps mortar bond ,4 to 1 mix is fine for stonework if possible shade the wall to stop fast curing and cracking .
