Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM
I have installed some artificial grass and used stone dust as a layer base for the grass. After couple days of rainfall the grass is wet under foot, do I need to take up grass and lay sand or isnthere any other way
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

5mm to dust is ideal for directly under the grass, I personally use 5mm limestone grit sand, underneath that should be scalpings/MOT, underneath that 50mm clean stone if the area has poor drainage.

Hi there.
Sharpsand, granite dust or other finishing material doesn't help You if base is done wrong. Type 1 base definitely need to go 100mm under artificial grass. If there is clean kley it could be problem as well. All depends on prep jobs. If builder left some pocket where water can collect and base is pure kley that could be answer here.
Hope that helps.

You need to use a plate compactor and make sure no dips at all in the surface as this will allow water to collect and cause a puddle.
