Central Heating

Attaching radiator to tongue and give covered wall.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hello. Our radiator leaked and needs replacing. The gas engineer removed the old rad and old brackets pre covid. Recently a different engineer has turned up with a new rad and new brackets which do not give enough clearance for the rad to be fitted into the same space (slays cut in the wood panel). They’re suggesting that we simple remove the tongue and grove to fit the new rad. This will be costly and also not what my elderly parents want. We’d need 5-6 cm clearance to attach bracket to wall and clear wood panelling. Q: can we buy brackets with 6cm clearance? I’ve failed to find any via Google. Or any other ways we can do this with minimal disruption? Thanks everyone

fill gaps in woodwork with wood strips, then fit brackets onto wood, pipework may have to be altered slightly ,but any good plumber would be able to sort this for you.

Previous post re screwfix these are standard Your best option is as previously stated is fit batten to wall to bring brackets forward of the panelling Obviously this will bring the new radiator further into the room

Fill the gaps in with wood this will bring the rad forward You can also use copper pipe spacers if you need a little bit more 👍
