Shed in garden 100 metres long

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

I have a shed in the garden 100 metres long.would 10mm armoured cable clip to the wall from the house to the shed.install a small ccu board with mcbs with a RCD main switch. In the house put a 40 amp breaker in the fuse board and in the garden also have a earth rod installed.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This really needs to be calculated by a competent electrician, what you're doing sounds correct but there are other factors to consider. The 40 amp circuit would be best non-RCD protected to provide discrimination in the event of an earth fault in the shed. Earth rod is good practice if your supply is PME but may not be necessary.

Would be fine without the earth rod as long as the house has good earth.

Firstly you need to consider the length of cable run from supply your gonna take from house to shed. Then consideration should be taken of your maximum load you require for the shed. You can take the earthing from house to shed shouldn’t need an earth spike or fit an earth spike if your electricial system isn’t an TT system. Once you know length of cable run and max electricial load you require ie what are you running electrically in the shed then the calculation for correct cable size can be done. My advise hire a qualified JIB electrician to under take any works required
