Distance between induction hob and extractor hood?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM
I’m having a canopy extractor hood installed into a bridging unit. The distance between the Induction hob and extractor is 1100mm. Just wondering if this extractor needs to be brought closer to the hob for better extraction? I’m quite tall so also don’t want to bang my head on it. But if the extractor won’t work effectively as it’s too high then I would rather drop it lower!

It's unusually high. it should be fine as steam from cooking goes straight up, as it's hot. Make sure it's installed properly if extracted, with at least 125mm ducting for its whole length. 150mm would be even better.
However you'd need a fluid dynamics engineer to give you a definitive answer!

As a rule of thumb I would always match the Gas regulation of 750mm from the top of the burner

750 max is as high as I would go unless the client request it higher for a tall person but higher it goes less effective it becomes

Whilst the legal minimum is between 650mm and 750mm we often install them higher so as to not impose on your headspace. The power of the appliance and the type and size of the ducting are much more important, how long the route is, number of turns etc... A decent appliance with rigid 6 inch ducting should perform well at 1100mm off the worktop.
