Should I insist on rebuild or agree to fixes?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM
Newly built extension is a shell. Roof wrong but has minimal fall of 4cm, floor uneven, will not be level with kitchen when exterior wall is demolished. Walks are not straight, bowed. Problems with cavities. Contractor agreed to rebuild now pulling out offering fixes.

Hi I hope this answer helps, firstly with your flat roof as long as your fall is not less that 5 degrees, some say you can go less but I have replaced several firrings due to pooling with anything less that 5 degrees, so just make sure your roof has a consistent slope and good quality fittings. With fixing the uneven floor if timber can be fixed with side notching and bolting new joists along the side and concrete self leveling (if not too bad) or re screed in an extreme case.
My answer to this question in a nutshell is if the work is at a consistently poor standard, getting them to fix it will only lead to shortcuts and as a new build should not be having patch work, I would recommend a rebuild from a different company as it could possibly be repeated.
I hope this helps and good luck with your works.
Kind regards,
