Mould in newly renovated basement

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hi, our basement is 3 rooms, one large room with window and door out to garden and 2 smaller rooms at the back. We had it all renovated less than 12 months ago with a membrane system and re plastered/ new floors etc as well as an air brick put in at ground floor (Approx 1 inch from the ground Outside) with a vent going down to the biggest back room. We are now getting musty smell and mould growth on everything in the rooms at the back. The room going out to garden seems ok. *update* the builder has refused to come back despite guarantee and told us to get extractor with humidistat fitted. We’ve done this and the air quality is better but still getting mould. The builder won’t come back to check the issue so we’re stuck with to do. Any suggestions welcome. No sump pump

Black mould is condensation and a ventilation problem ; buy a digital thermal hygrometer off the Internet for about £12 to check the RH ; over 65% and you need ventilation. Clean the mould off with white vinegar or Ronseal 3IN1 mould cleaner . Green mould is mildew , same as black mould cause. The smell is airborne spoors , indicating ideal mould conditions .

Has sump pump system was installed? If not then it is one reason for it. Would need to see it to give proper advice.
