Best way to start the heating again after house is 1 year derelict?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

We are buying a bank seizure house that has been sat empty for 1 year. What is the best way to start testing the heating. There is an oil tank in the garden and the boiler is relatively new. We were told it was functional a year ago but the surveyor was unable to assess it. - Should we get the oil tank serviced and filled first? - Should we get the boiler serviced first? - Shall we just turn it on and see if it works? Thanks!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would get an oftec registered engineer in to commission the boiler and the tank so you know everything is as should and get a commissioning certificate, Plenty of good oil engineers on my builder if you put out a new job listing for one

Personally I would make sure you have oil in the tank and then get boiler checked as the oil will likely need purging through boiler for it to work properly.
