Carpenter or handy man to lift laminate and fix floor boards and put them back
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
Am having squeaky floor problems and would like to lift the laminate, underlay and then fix the underlying floor boards and put them back. Am not sure if i should approach a carpenter or handyman for this purpose. Hoping to get some recommendations.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you think you can do the job yourself then do It.
But if you are not sure then a handy man is good but make sure he knows what he is doing.
Other wise a carpenter is the best option but a little bit more of an expense

You could get either to do the job providing they are experienced enough. A Carpenter will have no problem repairing the underlying floor and fixing the floor boards tight to the joists with screws or ring shanked nails. I am sure he will also have no difficulties removing and relaying the laminate flooring. Please note that depending on the type of laminate flooring you have currently, when taking it up it may get damaged and be irreparable. You may well need to allow for new laminate to be put down. In saying what I have above, until the person that may be doing the job see's it, advice will be limited. What may seem like a straight forward job tends not to be in my experience, as there could be other issues to deal with, like a rotten joist or floor boards. The best thing to do is get an experienced person to look at it physically to give you the appropriate advice. I hope this helps.

Another very important point which hasn’t been mentioned is that you cannot just put screws or nails through floor boards until you have lifted them up to see if any cables or pipes have been notched into the top of the joist.... you don’t want to screw through a cable or pipe!!
