I can hear water running constantly in the bathroom

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I think it’s to do with the hot water tank (not familiar with conventional boiler systems as always had combis). The head of my bed adjoins the bathroom wall and I’m awake for hours listening to water running, trickling, dripping and gushing. I’ve done the water meter test and there was no movement so no sign of a leak. Can anyone please advise what this might be and remedial measures. I know I’ll need to pay for a plumber to come out but I can’t afford hours of labour while a plumber investigates on site so I’d like a few ideas of what it might be please. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A gravity fed system has cold tank in loft, pushing water down to your hot tank, usually first floor when you open a hot tap. A plumber will need to investigate, but based on your description, they'll know where to target looking for it. Sounds like you need to be on site to hear it. Could be faulty cold water feed on your tank/float valve. Could also be fault inside toilet/overflow. Maybe it's unrelated to hot water and is on your central heating side. Keep your cost down by making sure plumber has clear access into and around your loft and bathroom areas, quicker they can see pipes, quicker it's found and fixed.
