Is DPM overkill beneath concrete foundation for garden cabin/

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I’ve created my sub base with type 1 scalpings (compacted down etc) for a garden cabin 24m sq. The cabin will be timber construction and my concrete is coming tomorrow (C30) which will be approximately 100mm deep (and a bit deeper around the edges). I've just bought some DPM which I've heard is good to prevent water getting sucked out of the concrete whilst it cures but I'm wondering if this is overkill and whether I should bother using it and same some cash?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would use it as it will slow down concrete going off and stop water coming back up in future

It will prevent rising damp , and the concrete will be stronger.

It inhibits water loss when curing and will prevent rising damp in the future, definitely worth the relatively small investment.
