Change of Circuit Trips Board

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hi all. SOLVED. Neutral was on the wrong bank of neutrals in the RCD box. I've been doing some work on my house the past few weeks and noticed the garage light was on the same circuit as the living room and kitchen lights so decided to change it to it's own circuit. I had an old doorbell circuit on the board which was never used so connected the garage light to that. It is 6A and so was the circuit it was on before. Now when I turn the garage light on it comes on for a split second then trips the whole RCD board. It's a 2 way switch but worked fine before. Any ideas?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You’re possibly feeding it from two circuits on different rcds. Possibly neutral is taken from another circuit. Is the new circuit on different rcd to the lighting circuit that the old connection is on ?

It is unnecessary to do that. Putting just one garage light on a separate circuit is pointless. As long as it was working okay before then why are you separating one light? Its perfectly normal and completely safe to include the garage as part of the downstairs lights.
