Best location for an extractor fan isolator switch

The usual place is above the door as this is a switch not aimed at being used as often as light switches etc therefor putting it abve the door out of the way makes sense. If you are concernced about the appearance or neatness i have seen some installed at a lower level and being hidden behing mirror or within a cupboard inside the bathroom. This way only you know it is there. IF you have a false ceiling (probably dont in your home) you can have it above the false ceiling. I think you are getting confused about switches. The fan would normaly be connected to the bathroom light switch so it comes on with the bathroom lights. Pull-cord switches are no longer popular and the modern way is to have the bathroom light switch located outside the bathroom on the wall near the door so you switch it on before you walk in. The purpose of the fan isolator switch is to enable the fan to be easily switched off to service it or remove it if it needs changing. Therefore, the fan switch is an isolator not a functional switch. Timer fans that have an overrun when switched off require the fan isolator to ensure all conductors, live, switched live and neutral are isolated. Non-timer fans don't usually have one. As for the location, above the door is default but they an be located elsewhere out of sight.
