Electrical

not £40 per hour for an electrician !

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I have been presented a bill for a total of £316.80 for installing a fanlight ,to say I am angry is an understatement ,especially when discussed on phone that the charge would be £103. guy was late then arrived started the job at13.25 and finished at 14.40 ,charged £6.00 for bulb (fine with that ) then added 20% on top of bill , the vat rate should also be questioned ?

Don't pay it. He would have to pursue it in court. Pay what you thought you were going to be charged. £300 + is too much for 1 light install. If he doesn't pay VAT it's fraud so ask for his VAT no first. OR even better check if his company is VAT registered. If its not then pay the VAT and then shop him to the tax man!

Vat is 20 %. Is he vat registered? You can check with his registration number. Did he quote you or give you an estimate? Seems excessively high , did you query it or have you paid ?
