Shower isolator location

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

My shower isolator is located on the ceiling (pull cord) right next to the shower, and sits against the bath above a corner bath. Is this legal? Thank you in advance for any answers!

Your bathroom is split in to distinct areas, as far as your electrics are concerned, called zones. Zone 0 is the area physically inside your bath. Zone 1 is the area immediately above your bath up to a height of 2.25m. Zone 2 is 0.6m from the edge of your bath, up to the same height as zone 1, 2.25m. Your shower pull switch is not allowed to be physically inside any of those 3 zones. To be more specific, the switch itself and the enclosure are not allowed to be in those zones, but the none metal cord part can. So, if you measure from the floor level to the shower pull switch, and the lowest part (not including the string) is above 2.25m, then it is ok. If it is below 2.25m, but more than 0.6 horizontally from the bath (which it doesn't sound like it is from your description) then it would also be ok. Hope this helps!

How high is the ceiling? If it’s above 2.25 m from the bottom of the bath to isolator it’s outside zone 1. If it’s not then it’s against regs but not illegal
