Remove lead sealant from brickwork
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM
Hello, my builder went a bit overboard with the lead sealant on the roof flashing and now it looks very bad close to the ridge. The sealant has stained the bricks of my house. I don't mind a bit of stain but that is around 2-3 brick courses of stain. Any ideas on how to remove this? We tried a steel brush but it does not do anything... Thanks!

Its gonna take a bit of elbow grease unfortunately. It's a bloody nitemare if your not careful with that stuff . Firstly it's down to the contractor and it's their obligation to make it right for you. Unfortunately the best way is to use a strong object like a trowel or a sharp bolster and literally scratch it off. Very time consuming. Other than that I cant really suggest anything. Pain in the back side

A good sharp bald to remove the excess, then a wire brush, then try silicone sealant remover.

Its difficult to say without seeing a picture, but I doubt it's the sealant staining the 2-3 courses of bricks, unless he was really really bad with it. It's more likely that patination oil was not used on both sides of the lead, therefore creating staining from the lead 'bleeding'. An included picture would help.

You have to be careful when using sealant/silicon etc once it’s dry can be a pain to get off brickwork
