Weak water flow from cold mixer tap in bath...
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM
Hi, Over a period of a few weeks the flow from the cold tap in our bath mixer has gone weak, and now no water flows. The tap still turns, but nothing comes out. All other taps in the house work fine, including the hot tap in the bath mixer. I've currently got the tap on for five or so minutes to see if flow improves, but nothing happens. Should I replace the washer and see if this improves things, or is there a blockage? Many thanks

I would look at the Gland where the Washer is. The Gland could of come off its thread and stuck in the closed position. May well be an Air Lock in the Cold but others are running so probably not that. Also look at the Filter at the Spout and see if that is Scaled Up.

Could be a few things. Firstly the tap insert has water in its winding spindle. And because you can’t compress water. It won’t turn on more than 1/2 a turn. Or a flexi underneath has decided to kink. And thirdly an air lock

If it's a quarter turn tap change valve, if a twistdown tap change valve. No point in just replacing washer when a set of valves are £5 from srewfix.
If and odd sized valve like 3/4 instead of half inch you might struggle to find them ( good plumbers can find them cheaply) but they can be expensive online and it might be cheaper to replace the tap.
It will not be an airlock as the mains pressure would push out all the air on the cold. Different story on the hot as depends what boiler you have.

Hello. Okay 1. does your cold bath tap water come from a loft tank (low pressure). 2. does your cold water wash hand basin come from mains cold (high pressure).
If yes, then have your loft tank checked for debris blocking the inlet. if clear it looks like an air block which is a simple fix for a plumber or DIY'er and can be done in the time it takes to make a cup of tea... allegedly.
Cheers, Bob.
