Roof flashing tape vs lead

Hello, we are having an extension at the moment and my tradesman is suggesting to use bond-it adhesive flashing for our double pitched roof. I don't have any experience with English houses but it seems to me that lead is the main material used for this type of work. Does anyone have any experience with adhesive flashing for a new roof? Is it good? Does it last long? At the moment I don't feel comfortable using it and I really want to trust my tradesman but I cannot find many resources online for adhesive flashing. I want to make sure that what i'm getting is going to be good for many years. Please let me know what are your thoughts. Thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for your answers ! We went with lead :)

Please insist to him to use the correct Code 4 lead flashing. The bond it adhesive flashing tape is only good for flashing a down to a conservatory, and barely that. Nothing more. He should be cutting a 25-40mm Chase in the brick work above the final tile and inserting a lead flashing and dressing it down on to the tiles then either using a mixture of a sand and cement, or a lead sealant to fill the chase. Lead work will last the test of time (30/50 years of stall correctly). The flashing tape will last 5-10 at very maximum. It’s a very cheap product compared to the lead work, but will not work anywhere near as good.

It’s rubbish make sure he uses lead. Least you know with lead it is secure in the brickwork joint. Once the adhesive fails your flashing will just fall off. It’s only really used for places where the lead is being repeatedly stolen etc. And is a last resort.

If your looking for something that will last lead flashing is the way to go although more expensive but much longer lasting and more of a polished look in my opinion I would not recommend

Ive used flashing tape manufactured by ubbink. Its meant as lead substitute is basically made from high performance and alluminium. Its widely used on low level roof that are accessible. Its used also because it's cheaper than which unfortunately tends to get stolen on low roofs. Not sure of the guarantee period would think minimum of 10 years.

I haven’t personally used it, it’s expensive stuff so normally that suggests it is good. The material itself I believe has a similar manufacturer guarantee to lead sheet roll. I don’t know of many if any roofers using it over lead as there go too first choice, as lead is still a strong first choice in U.K. roofing, normally it is used if a roof has an issue with repeat thief of it lead work flashings. Maybe ask him why he feels for your application why feels it’s better suited? It’s your house so you hold the final decision really. Regards Frankie BT Roofing Services

Stay away from it that’s only used for emergencies to get you by until it can be done propley should use lead 100 percent

I would never use flashing tape on any new roof it is usualy used for temp repairs and does not last very long there are lots of alternatives to lead but lead is better than anything else hope this helps

There's no substitute for lead. More durable and lasts the longest. More expensive but will save you money in the long run.

Hi I would always use lead flashings. a good alternative is ubiflex in many sizes. It has no resale value. So you have no worries material to be stolen.
