Is it likely there's lead paint in my home?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hi there, I've just started stripping skirting boards using Nitromors. I read on the can that you can use Nitromors on lead paint but don't sand it. My flat is in a 1900 house that was converted into flats in 1989 - is it likely there's lead paint in the flat? Is it safe to use Nitromors to strip the skirting board and if so, how do you smooth it if you can't sand? Any advice very gratefully received.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you use nitromors to remove all the paint then when you sand you will just be working on the bare wood and not the lead. Wear a mask anyway because wood particles are still not good to breathe.

There are test kits availabe that indicate the presence of lead in paint. But the best advice, and this applies regardless of lead or not, is to use appropriate ppe especially using the correct mask when sanding etc

To be honest I would have got new skirting run up to the same profile as the original and started again . nitromors is not good for the environment and messy to work with .
