Do I need gas certificate for extension even tho no gas is installed?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

I bought and renovated a house a 3 years back. It needed completely stripping back and gas and electrics installing. Last year I added a 2 story extension with new electrics and the kitchen and bathroom was plumbed in to the existing boiler in the main house. All appliances in kitchen are electric, there is no gas feed into the extension at all. To get building control to sign it off they said I need the electrical certificate (fair enough) and a gas certificate. I told them there is no gas in the extension but they insist I will still need a gas certificate. My plumber also said why do you need a gas certificate if there is no gas? Any thoughts? Are building control right? Thanks very much!

Yes, building work are correct because the works involved works to the existing boiler & this is deemed as a gas appliance

A Gas saftey certificate is issued by gas safe following notification that a gas appliance is fitted to the property and to say that appliance is correctly installed to the gas supply and operating safely. Connecting a new feed on to the hot pipe of the current system will not require notification or retesting of the gas supply or appliance. In this situation the boiler install is classed a existing. Do you have a copy of the gas safety certificate following notification of the new boiler from 3 years ago? If so you can use this to show that gas appliance is installed correctly.
