Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

I have 3 nuetral cables terminated together into metal light fitting also a earth cable. There are 3 live cables terminated together into a block. What goes where into a new ceiling rose with live, nuetral and loop sections.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

All neutral in neutral slot. Earth is in earth slot And among 3 live 1 is switch live which is for light live rest 2 live cable for loop or common. Connect separately .

Hi, the three permanent lives (reds) in the terminal block should be terminated in the loop terminal (centre of the ceiling rose) one of the three neutrals (black cables should be a switch live which would need to be connected to brown flex side of ceiling rose, other two blacks are neutrals to blue flex side of ceiling rose Hope that makes sense Regards Paul

It sounds like the lighting circuit is feeding each light rather than at the switch. Therefore, 2 of the 3 cables will be a feedS in and out and the other cable will be a switch line from the light down to the switch. You will need to check which cables are which. The feeds will go together, so both earths, both neutrals and live/line cables. Then the conductors of the switch line will be terminated (earth with other earths, brown live/line with the feed lives/lines and then the blue conductor of the switch line with the live of the ceiling rose (put brown sleeping on the blue conductor to identify that it is acting as a live conductor not as a neutral.

The three brown or red live cables terminate into the loop connection, one the so called neutrals will actually be a switch live. This will need to be tested and identified. Once identified the two neutral will terminate into the neutral terminal and the switch live will terminate into the outside live terminal, not to forget to identify as live with some brown sleeving

Ill be honest with you. It sounds like if you connect it that way it will go bang. A lot of lights are wired using the loop in loop out method and then a switch wire and Live. Meaning that only two of the blacks are Neutral. Then the three reds get connected in the loop section. However then the left over black is a switched live. It is the core that brings your light on. Feel free to get in touch if i can be of any further advice. Please do not think this is definitely the way it should be wired. Lights can be wired various ways. You should contact an electrician.
