Touched up areas with silk instead of Matt on ceiling - how to remedy?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

I’ve had my ceiling repainted by a tradesman with Crowne Matt white after some damage mainly leftover residue from sticky pads used to hold decorations up a while ago. They clearly didn’t do a proper job as The ceiling looked fine but then a few of the marks started to show through again including what looked like an area they had filled and repaired but hadn’t covered properly. Thinking I still had some of the same leftover paint I thought u would just give it a touch up but have realised too late that I used some SILK paint. I now have a few small areas with a Shiney roller mark touch up area that stand out from the rest. I was going to go back and buy the same crowne Matt paint to paint over but have read not to paint Matt over silk again. These are only very small small areas maybe a few inches long and wide (applied with a mini roller). Is there anyway to touch them up with the original paint to blend back in without risk of crackling and bubbling etc?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Area has to be sanded properly . Where u have the marks I would use a stain block first and then re coat the entire ceiling to give him a good finish . Any touch up works would show no matter what .

Sand the areas where you have touched up the silk to key the surface. Touch up with a stain block, my preference would be a zinsser product such as B-I-N sealer then touch up with the matt and fully recoat the ceiling.

Are the areas in question raised or sticky? If they are you'd definitely need to sand them or scrape them down a bit. If not, I would give it another full coat with the same paint or buy a ceiling paint in matt. I think the painter needed to do another coat. You can get one coat paints but generally two coats is always needed for the best finish. Specialised paint for ceilings only are the best bet as they are thicker.
