Hi all! I Bought second hand doors. Need to move the hinges up/down to match the hinge placement on current doorframe. What’s the best way to do this? It’s just 2 doors.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, it is always a problem to choose which hinges cuts to use offer the doors into the respective frames to check fit also check if the hinges are in alignment plumb them you may find that they are not far off, mark the existing hinge openings on door they may overlap the old ones on the frame cut out hinge openings and hang door fill the left over opening in the hinge area ,and of course you can always hang door on opposite frame stile and fill existing hinge cuts on frame or door and hang as normal

cut your door to size and then place it in the frame, use a couple of wedges to hold in place, then simply mark the hinge position on either the door or frame

If your current doors are a good fit that you are happy with, take door off and mirror the hinge positions onto new door. Mark the hinge position then the depth the hinge is cut into the door. Then use a hammer and chisel to cut out the hinge relief, there are lots of video tutorials on YouTube of how to do this. Then transfer hinges over and Fit door.
