The cheaper hinges are a lot thinner then the better hinge, also the descent quality ones normally have an engraving where the cheaper ones that come in for example a trade pack or value pack from your local DIY store, personally a good joiner would always use a descent quality hinge.

You must insist on the new hinges matching your existing.
It is actually more trouble to fit a thinner hinge in a housing designed for a thick hinge. The contracted company have chosen a cheap option and passed the problem to the hapless fitter.Just say you are not happy.
Incidentally virtually all hinges are available from good ironmongers or trade suppliers, so don't take any flannel about 'no longer available'.
