Radiotors heat up by turning on hot water

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

Hi all experts, I've recently moved into a house, wich has a sealed room combi boiler. It also has a Drayton Digistat RF701 +3RF Wireless 7 thermostat installed in the property. There's no paperwork for the thermostat such as instructions etc so all instructions I have were downloaded. I have figured out how to use the thermostat and the boiler. My problem now is, I have had the thermostat in the last 2 days, either switched off or set to minimum temperature, but still when we run hot water tap, such as taking a shower or wash the dishes the radiator are boiling hot, although on the boiler the radiator is off, or the thermostat is either off or set to minimum. I can't figure out what else it could be, so if anyone has any idea or any experience on what it could be, would be greatly appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

With it being a combi boiler, its very likely the diverter valve is faulty. I would advise having an engineer check free movement in the diverter valve or motorised head (depending on make and model of boiler ?) firstly before you start looking at anything else, this is the most common fault especially based on the symptoms you've described.

Check diverter valves not sticking , would help if you said the boiler make n model tbh

I’d check the diverted valve with these symptoms.

As previously said, I would be more than likely to suggest it was the diverter valve sticking for heating, then not closing when there is a hot water demand. Depending on boiler make and model it shouldn’t, be too expensive to have repaired or replaced
