Asbestos Ceiling in Garage

The asbestos cements sheets are inert unless disturbed, once you start fixing 'through them' to put up plasterboard then you are releasing asbestos/cement dust, plus there is a probability of cracking the sheets by nailing or screwing through them without pre drilling - my advice remove the asbestos.

Hi Daniel as long as insulation is OK then I would fix upvc t&g cladding to ceiling and seal around edges . Panels fixed with strong adhesive quick cure.

You should definitely not be fixing anything over the top of asbestos my advice is to get a specialist company in to assess what type of asbestos it is then get it removed by people who know what they are doing you should get a spotlessly clean room after and paperwork to say what has been done

The previous answer is correct and expensive. I would glue pvc cladding with no nails as this will be a quicker and cheaper fix

Hi Daniel, in a perfect world, all asbestos would be removed. However, that is really expensive. You say that the ceiling is sound. Asbestos is harmless unless you damage it. I say just leave it alone. Don't hide it under plaster board. Some poor tradesman of the future won't know it is there and will drill into the plaster board, plus how are you going to fix the plaster board when you can't drill into asbestos? I suggest that you just paint it. You should be safe enough just giving it a coat of paint. Wear a mask and gloves as a precaution but the asbestos is bonded and very few fibres will shed during painting.
