Why has my lawn gone hard and yellow?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Recently moved in my new home and now have a lawn to maintain, front and back, with the back being medium size. Bought a fairly cheap mower from argos with a 1200w motor. The first cut was tough because it was long and a little damp at the bottom. parts of the lawn went yellow almost instantly, Ive mowed it a further 3 times since and each time it's gone more and more yellow. I've tried some miracle gro to bring some colour back and it's made no difference. Also where it first started to go yellow it's now quite patchy. What do I need to do to have a healthy looking green lawn? Thanks

Take note of how much sun is hitting the garden, how hot the weather is when you mow it, early mornings before it gets too hot are best, or late afternoon when it cools down. Also be sure not to water the lawn in direct sun, mainly during the hottest hours of the day if it is seeing direct sun. It may be that the original grass laid hasn't got enough varieties of grass seeds, the more the better. You can buy grass seeds and seed over the whole lawn once or twice a year. Avoid mowing it for a bit while the seeds root. Also leaving grass cuttings on the lawn after mowing helps the grass to stay green during hotter weather.

There's a couple of things, lack of nutrition in the soil or water. It could be a pet urine.
