Skirting Board cracks & painted walls
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.31 PM
We are looking to move and want to make the house look at great as possible but I have notices that the skirting board in a few rooms, and running up the stairs have small cracks between the wood and walls I would usually just grab some caulk but some of the walls are painted dark colours and I don't want to get caulk all over them or have to repaint the walls - any ideas?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You could run a bit of masking tape along the wall to protect it then sponge it off .

I would use some frog tape along wall surfaces and carefully fill cracks with caulk then touch up the paintwork.

Better to drill , plug & screw the skirting board back tighter to the wall in the affected areas then full & touch up your new screw heads ,, this way no ( or tiny amount ) of caulk needed

I would use a more expensive tape or frog tape is just as good apply to painted wall (don't press it too hard on the wall)
Cut any uneven sections of the original Caulk out & neatly apply the new Caulk.
Then removed tape immediately after Caulk is applied, this way any excess Caulk that is covering the tape will remove easily leaving a perfect line.
Also if tape is left on over night or for a period of time you find it will removed some of the paint front the wall when peeled off.
Wait for Caulk to dry & repeat the process of fitting tape, paint the woodwork & remove the tape while paint still wet.
If there is a 2nd coat to apply repeat the last 2 steps
In my experience this gives the best finish.
