Lime plastering existing Lime

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

I have a 2 bedroom Victorian purpose built flat, circa 1898. The walls are present are all lime mortar and some slight alterations in one of the rooms has been repaired with cement and gypsum, this is less than 20% of the total wall in one room, and less than 5% in another. One of the rooms has distemper on the walls also. Blown parts of the room have been hacked out in both rooms. My question is, can Natural Hydraulic lime (NHL2) be used to patch plaster the blown parts and then when evened out, skim the room? Is there any considerations I need to have?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will have to get rid of all the cement/gypsum plaster, then replace with lime in the patches you can get a sealer to seal all the walls then re skim the entire room in a lime putty plaster

yes you can use an nhl2 for making good the backing coat. a 3:1 mix should suffice (sharp sand:lime). It is recommended to use a lime finish plaster with 70%+ minimum pure lime content to finish the areas required. hope that helps
