Kitchen Fitting

IKEA fit - dishwasher at end, what to do about worktop support

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi all, I'm finishing off a layman's kitchen fit from IKEA. Plan has the dishwasher at the end due to pipework for sink etc on that line. It'll be free standing dishwasher and then cover panel would be at the end beside it. Roughly 500mm unsupported worktop that would go over it. My current thought is to put battens into the wall then secure hinges for worktop to sit on, then have the same for end panel with it coming down as close as possible to the flooring. Would anyone have any better ideas? Appreciate the help. Kind regards, John

normally you would fit an end panel that goes from the underside of the worktops down to floor. Unless the worktops are compact laminate there's no need to support the worktop at the rear, the sides are sufficient

Most professional fitters would not fit an IKEA kitchen, they are a nightmare. Best advice would be not to choose IKEA. Get it professionally designed and installed .

Lols at the answers! IKEA is what it is. An appointment with a in house kitchen designer is always a great start as the see these issues before you order. But yes an end finish panel would be what you need in most cases or a counter return to floor if you have a big off cut to do the job but it's a more advanced fit than a panel and maybe a job for a bloke that's done it a few times. Good luck
