Should I replacing the ceilings?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hello! May I please have some advice? We have a 3 bedroom flat (purpose built flat) which is entirely covered by woodchip wall paper (including the ceiling) We’re in the process of removing it all but I’m not sure which way is the best/wise for the ceilings. If I take the wall paper off, the ceiling won’t be perfectly clean and it’ll need professionals to fix. Q: Will I be better off just replacing all the ceiling boards and filled and sanded, ready for painting? If so Q: should we take the ceilings down ourselves to make the cost lower? If possible I don’t want to over-board because some areas of the ceiling are not in great condition. I am spending time to research and get information to fix this flat in the best possible way with reasonable cost. We’re trying to do ‘no skill required’ labouring jobs before we ask quotations and start renovation. Thank you very much for reading and I would appreciate your advice. Kind regards, J

Better off replacing as you will never get a neat finish after scraping off woodchip and filling. I would take down old ceiling and replace with new plasterboard, then plaster them. Also while the ceiling is down it might be worth adding sound insulation if you have people above

You could easily remove the wall paper on the ceiling. It's save you money on labour. Repair the damaged part and skim the ceiling. Cost effective
