Removing upstairs toilet connected to downstairs toilet

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

I am looking to remove an upstairs toilet temporarily, but the soil pipe is connected to the downstairs toilet. What further precautions or work would be needed upon removing the toilet. I presume the soil pipe would need to be capped off etc. Any advice please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As you are removing wc higher than the other there will be no risk of water escaping so just tie a plastic bag around soil pipe to stop smell from sewer

Hi, you could use a 110mm socket plug to cap off from the soil stack. If it’s a push fit branch you can remove this and temporarily cap it off. You can get these from most plumbing merchants. Hope this helps. 👍🏻

With it being the higher part of the waste pipe and only a temporary removal then a plastic bag taped around the pipe to prevent any sewer odour would suffice.
