Removing upstairs toilet connected to downstairs toilet
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
I am looking to remove an upstairs toilet temporarily, but the soil pipe is connected to the downstairs toilet. What further precautions or work would be needed upon removing the toilet. I presume the soil pipe would need to be capped off etc. Any advice please?

As you are removing wc higher than the other there will be no risk of water escaping so just tie a plastic bag around soil pipe to stop smell from sewer

Hi, you could use a 110mm socket plug to cap off from the soil stack. If it’s a push fit branch you can remove this and temporarily cap it off. You can get these from most plumbing merchants.
Hope this helps. 👍🏻

With it being the higher part of the waste pipe and only a temporary removal then a plastic bag taped around the pipe to prevent any sewer odour would suffice.
