Water Ingress in to basement room
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM
I have a property built on a hill in South Benfleet with an underbuild that has access for storage. Whenever it rains water floods the floor and I have tried to engage a surveyor to help with discovering the cause but nne are able to attend and give me an answer stating it is not there area of expertise? Who should i contact to fins a solution to the problem and fix it?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If water is flooding a basement then it is less about why it is happening (which will relate is some way to ground water hydrology) but more what to do about it. I would contact a basement tanking specialist and consider a pumped cavity drainage system.

The route cause needs to be established and then a suitable tanking or drainage system employed. I am not sure if there is an 'all in one' specialist you can go too without knowing the exact cause. The problem may be a simple one, for example, broken rainwater pipes or one that is more complicated for example groundwater issues. I would think excavation down to a suitable level to visually see what the problem may be, would be the first thing to do. This would need to be done with a suitably experienced person ie an architect or others. Tanking companies selling their products will obviously want to sell you something that they use, but this may not be the simples solution, that perhaps a french drain offers.
I hope this is of help to you.
