Plastering & Rendering

How long to let plaster dry before installing a toilet.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM

I have had a porch cloakroom project on the go for three months now (instead of the initially predicted 4-6 weeks), with the contractor rocking up for a few hours a week along with lots of other issues and excuses which are getting a bit boring now. The cloakroom was boarded and plastered this week, around the installed pipework, and he has now said he can't install the toilet two days from now as planned as the plaster needs to "cure" before the toilet can be installed. I know plaster has to dry out before painting, tiling etc, but how long does plaster actually need to cure in this case?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi It sounds like you have been used as a "hospital" job up until now but I would support the 2 - 3 days to allow a plaster skim coat to dry before fitting any sanitary ware including WC. Ideally the plaster will be a pale salmon colour suggesting it has dried otherwise no mastic silicon will fully adhere as plaster is still wet and there may be holes / gaps once fully dried leading to possible future leaks

Hi, There is no right or wrong time limit it’s just good old common sense! And of course weather and time of the year (heat humidity etc) but generally the day after is fine ! in some cases if plastering is completed in the morning you can work on it in the afternoon but don’t drill it or silicone it till at least the day after once it’s all a consistent pink colour is dry!! Good luck
