Knauf XPS Laminate Plus (Insulated Plasterboard) on Ceiling over existing plasterboard
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM
I'm wondering if it's possible in a few small rooms (kitchen and bathroom) each < 5 square meters to simply add a layer of insulated plasterboard (27mm) over the existing layer to provide a bit of improvement on heat loss as well as modest sound improvement. I'm guessing it is the same as adding a second layer of normal plasterboard over the existing plasterboard ceiling...just with deeper plasterboard screws? I think the Knauf XPS Laminate plus has a vapor foil layer so should be OK for the kitchen and bathroom hopefully. The assumption of course is that a skim layer would be used to finish the boards so would add an extra 3mm or so and bit of weight but again can't see that being a problem relative to doubling up on normal plasterboard. For reference the rationale is that several other rooms are having full soundproofing and in theory insulation work. These rooms were less of an issue but just wanted to do a quick cost effective improvement mainly for insulation purposes.
