Best way to protect ethernet cable which will go from inside the house to the garden shed?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.51 PM

Hi. I have a ethernet cable which will run from the house to the shed in the garden. Around 3 metres will be exposed outside, it will be placed on the grass. Would a plastic cable protector suffice or is there anything else you can recommend? The ethernet cable will not be outside all of the time. It will be run through the kitchen window to the shed whenever I am working from home. And some evenings for a few hours. It will then be taken back inside. So I'm looking for ways to protect the ethernet cable and potentially a extension cord for the hours it will be outside.Thank you for all the advice, much appreciated

You can buy armoured cat6 cable. This you could bury and leave it as permanent. You would need an electrician to terminate both ends properly that suit your needs.

You could always put the cable into a flexible conduit (Copex)! It would give it a little bit of mechanical protection. Or you could use cable tread that you could slip over it and still walk on it. https://www.screwfix.com/p/d-line-multi-cable-cover-light-duty-black-1-8m/9345F?tc=QA6&ds_kid=92700055281954475&gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1249401&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3ZX4BRDmARIsAFYh7ZIkeyWYm6INGJxXM1YByM767EilT4fvHCc-EoduqYyKLz2ZyQ9tRuAaAh7NEALw_wcB Hope this helps

Conduit for external use will do you trick.

It doesn't really matter too much as there is no voltage in the cable. If it snaps or is compromised then just get another cable.
