Wood blotches due to filler/glue

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Previous homeowners have stained the door frames but you can very clearly see patches of discolouration/blotches where they’ve used glue between sections and filler to fill holes. Is there anything I can do, other than paint over the whole frame?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It depends on whether the stain is water based or oil based However the PVA glue would have penetrated the wood And so spot touching it does not work One has to sand down the affected area so that there is no more glue left unfortunately And stain again

Hey, hope all is well. Try sanding it down so you have an even finish and then paint it. You could use an ordinary detail sander or by hand. I hope that helps Kind regards Yusuf

I'm afraid there isn't much you can do about this problem . If any area is filled and stained over there is always going to be a difference you have 2 choices you either fill rub down and re stain with a deeper colour stain Or you white it out, again filling any defects and then prime undercoat and apply a top coat with gloss or satin finish which is a more fashionable look at the moment
