Cause of damp patch next to radiator
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.33 PM
Hi everyone, we have a damp patch from ground up to about 20cm high (10cm wide) in the wall right adjacent to a radiator, and also a small patch just below it. It's an internal wall that has dpc laid about 10 years ago. The bathroom is about 3 m away from this damp wall (same wall connects to the bathroom) and bathrm had a pretty bad leak which we have now fixed. The bit of floorboard right outside the bathroom was pretty wet but the other floorboards connecting the bathroom to the wall appear dry, and the floor is also slightly sloping upwards towards the damp patches so not sure water will travel up a slope? I'm not sure if the damp is caused by one of these 3 reasons: 1) the leak in the bathroom travelling up the wall maybe (it couldnt have travelled up the floorboards because the middle boards are dry, and it's up a slope). The moisture readings of the wall between bathroom and damp patches show no dampness in the middle bit of wall but that could be because there is hard plaster in that bit of wall. 2) small failure of dpc 3) leak in radiator pipes? Doesn't appear to be drop in boiler pressure though. I'm obviously hoping it's 1 and that it'll dry up in time as leak now fixed, but not sure. Grateful for any thoughts or advice that people have. I'm hoping not to have to remove floorboards in the middle of the hallway! Many thanks!
