Toilet waste pipe in wrong position?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.33 PM

I wish to replace a Twyford toilet fitted in 1986. It is close coupled and I suspect that modern replacements are now less deep and sit closer to the wall. The existing outlet to the sewer is set vertically in a concrete floor and appears to be a 'pottery' type sewer pipe about 14 cms external diameter protruding about 8 cms above floor level. It is about 26 cms from the wall at the furthest side. Having looked at many possible replacements my problem seems to be, if I have the specifications correctly, that this pipe is too far away for modern toilets that now sit closer to the wall. I am aware of flexible pan connectors but doubt that I could get one to fit. Any comments or suggestions much appreciated or am I just being stupid!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi you might be able to use a pan connector that is shaped like a question mark that could get the wc closer to the wall, but you might have to box the cistern off the wall a bit as well. Other than that you would have to alter the soil pipe in the floor Hope that helps Guy

depending on the distance from wall you may have to dig and alter position of drain.

Close coupled will be too close you'll need to use a low level WC or build a boxing ti sit new WC against hiding the waste.

The pan connector mentioned only works a small percentage of times usually you either have to alter the drainage which often is difficult in practical terms the other alternative is to build a bulkhead behind the cistern hope these options help.
