If I cap off the gas fire, can the fireplace go back in as decorative.

I have a gas fire which I want to cap off as I believe it may be more cost effective for me as a landlord instead of having to do annual smoke tests etc. Will this current fireplace be able to remain as a decorative feature only? It’s probably a silly question but I don’t know if the cap off will mean the fireplace won’t fit back in, it’s not something I’ve dealt with before
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there
If the gas supply to fire is capped and you do a tightness test to prove that everything is sound no drop on the carcass new cap etc then the fire can stay on site.
If you ever decide to use the fire again it would have to be fully recommissioned
The fire would still be listed on a landlords certificate but tested etc would be filled out as appropriate

Hi.
A gas safe registered engineer like myself can cap it off for you. It can then be left in place if you so wish.
Many thanks
