Gas Works

Rotate gas meter to face into living room

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

For some reason Mybuilder declined this job I posted because "We don't have a suitable category for this job". So I'm not sure how to go about posting this?! Basically I have a gas meter that I'd like someone to rotate 180degrees so it faces into the living room, instead of the hallway. Brick up the little doorway and box in the meter with a new door for access in the living room. Is this a straightforward job, or do I need to look elsewhere than on Mybuilder? Cheers

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Tradesmen won’t be able to carry out this job as you’d have to disconnect both the ingoing and outgoing mains gas pipe work in order to rotate your meter. Only your local gas authority ie-British gas can make amendments to the ingoing pipe work to the meter.

The reason MyBuilder was not able to take on your job is because it is one to be carried by your gas service provider. The way it works is that your gas service provider works from the road to the gas meter, whereas as gas engineer works from the meter into the property. Hence why particular jobs are split up and carried out by different sides of the trade. I hope this helps you out.

Trade man can only work after the out let of the gas meter before that only the gas provider can do this.

As long as the incoming main can stay where it is the downstream can be altered so that the meter is turned 180..not a problem.

Hi, Although the guys above are right that gas engineers can only typically work downstream of the meter, if you possess the appropriate qualifications (MET1) then a gas engineer has the rights/abilities to move a meter. Since I have this qual I'd be happy to see if I can help you and discuss further if you'd like. Please visit my page and click 'invite to quote' and I can see what I can do for you. Speak soon Luke
