Bathroom Fitting

Nightmare bathroom fitter- constantly damaging my property

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I honestly do not know what to do. This was only intended to be a part refit (tiled bath area, screen and thermostatic shower). Unfortunately, this has been outstanding since January and he’s damaged so much of my property, honestly you think I was joking. -Damaged a large amount of my new porcelain tiling , which I replaced using a contractor. He cheekily asked me to split the cost. -Cracked my bath tub by not putting any protection on the tub when removing existing tiles. He replaced this in June originally pretending it was a damaged tub by the manufacturer when in fact used a number of times before - left the damaged tub in my garden as he refused to take it and asked me to store it in my 2 door seat Ibiza -Misaligned bath screen so the screen is held outside the tub (he think he’s done this correctly despite photographic evidence) although water escape outside the tub, -Screen had to be replaced by myself as he damaged the first one refusing to replace it (completely scratched the metal aspects and the wall profile was completely warped) -Damaged a £600 mirror by knocking into it (he said I didn’t need to clear the landing space as he was being careful) -Took 6 months to complete the bathroom after several excuses and lying about collecting the replacement tub (apparently travelled 2.5 hours) then later saying he hadn’t collected it so I sent him screenshots of the discussion back in January. - He left the shower on when turning the mains on after removing the damaged tub, resulting in water damage downstairs. He said it was little water but it’s a large rain shower unit and I saw the water spreading across my ceiling and walls - Grout and silicone missing in certain areas which I have reported to him - his tiled bath panel fell apart after he removed it to take out the tub. It’s supposed to be removable. - Failed to arrange a decorator to fix the issues- is water marks - he refused to return on the same day as he rushed out to fix the remaining issues eg grout silicone missing in areas and misaligned bath screen. - Now with the new bath tub installed, he expressed everything had been checked on email and text and more water came through last night through the ceiling causing further damage to my downstairs ceiling. Honestly I have never complained about a contractor before. He refuses to return to the property as he thinks he’s done a great job. It’s been so stressful and my partner is autistic. I’m a very strong person but the stress caused me to have an anxiety attack on 2 occasions. I’ve only called him a handful of times but he never answers my call and found out he blocked my number. He is always late to the property or doesn’t attend and cancels hours later. This was not one unfortunately, it happened many times. What do I do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

What a shame, you can claim this on your building insurance phone them up and they will send a surveyor around, you can then employ an honest qualified bathroom fitter to complete the bathroom correctly

You can only take legal action if he is an established contractor and you have a written contract with him . If so the the small claim court will be advised and if not then unfortunately it would a waste of time. Hope this helps
