Power to Garden Shed
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
I’d like to put a light and a double socket in my garden shed. The shed is at the bottom of the garden (about 10 meters) from the house. Is this an easy job? Is solar power an option? Thanks in advance

You will need a electrician to lay armoured cable under ground .and it all depends on what you want to use in your shed

Don’t think you can get a solar powered socket. As for being easy.... yes it is for a professional but certainly should not be considered as a ‘diy job’

You need an electrician to do this in UK. It's not a big job. Solar only for lights is an option, U have done it. Small panel, regulator and battery. You could go solar plus an inverter but really it's not a great option as cost of batteries, battery management etc more of a hobby issue.

You will need to supply the shed with a suitable cable. The cable needs to be protected so the use of swa armour cable is a good choice. You also need to install the correct cable sizing to cope with the potential demands and power usage of the shed. Swa cable does not necessarily need to be buried. The socket outlet and lights within the shed will need to be RCD ptotected. It is strongly advisable to have an electrictian test the installation before usage.
