Best way of preparing new render for painting
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
Hi - we have recently had our house partially re-rendered due to a previous attempt fail due to the wrong mix (too much sand). Can someone recommend a product to stabilise the new render to allow painting please? Also the order so use x product as a stabiliser followed by a thin coat of as primer followed by 2 coats of ? The correct product selection, order of application and number of coats gratefully welcomed. Thank you.

1st coat thinned down masonry paint 50/50 ratio. Then 2 full coats of good quality masonry paint is the correct way

A render stabilising primer ie dulux is what you need to seal the new render then one mist coat followed by 2 coats full, check out the dulux range for a good guide. all the best dave.

Make sure render is fully dried.
Apply one thin coat followed by two full coats of good quality masonry paint.

Depending on the surface, but I would be tempted to use Dulux weathershield stabiliser first, then the thinned coat and two full coats.

I would clean any loose dust or debris from the wall surfaces. Then apply two good coats of a quality masonry paint. No need to add stabiliser or to water down paint.
If absolutely required, apply a third full coat.
