Painting a plaster board wall which had been wallpapered
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
I am very worried that i have created a real mess . Previous owners of my house installed a Stereo System with built in wiring behind what i think is a plaster board wall with a gap behind it for the wiring. I hated the wallpaper on the wall and decided to strip it off. This has left a mess with some patches of what appear to be a white pva which has been applied and some places where the covering of the plaster board has pulled off to leave brown board. Please can any one advise how i can sort this out as just wanted to paint it

I would strip the full wall to see the damage I would repair the wall to the best of my ability then sand wall down size then line for a papering finish or emulsion finish customers choice

If you have not removed the wallpaper on a very large portion, you can repair it with filler. But if you have made holes in the plasterboard it needs to be replaced.

2 options:
Either reseal with pva solution & re-skim boarding.
Rundown frayed surface, face fill with easy fill possibly twice, rub down to smooth finish.

if the plaster board is compromised with wallpaper paste or any sort of glue the best thing to do is just replace the plaster board and have if skimmed your just dry lined to ensure a smooth finish you could line the wall with line the wall with lining paper but doubtful the finish will be smooth.
