I want to run a Shed cable
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
Hello, I want to run a cable to the shed. What cable size do i need ? And what fuse to use for it? I just need to run the cables and then to hire an electrician to do connection. Looking forward to hear from you. Shed is about 50m from the house. How is the best to put new fuseboard in the house or to the shed?

Shed supplies are one of the most frequently asked about topics. I would advise asking an electrician for their advice on site because they will be able to assess the best way forward and advise you on any potential issues. Its not just a case of dropping in a cable. There are lots of associated things that need to be checked to arrive at the right decision. This is best done when on the site. Generic answers may not be applicable. Nearly all jobs are unique in what needs doing.
Edit:Since answering the question you added that the distance is 50 metres. This is a considerable distance from the house so you will definitely need to have someone on site. It cannot be answered without seeing the job.

Unless you know the length of the cable and the load you can’t say what fuse and size of cable is needed.

There are many Factors to consider when calculating cable size. These include power requirements within shed, Installation method length of cable run and Environmental factors. All of these a qualified electrician would be able to help you determine cable CSA. Without enough information it is impossible to determine. My advice would be to speak with the electrician you will be hiring to connect they will then advise on cable CSA and installation method. Usually a 600mm trench will need to be dug and An electrician would need to ensure that depth prior to certifying any works.
