I’m looking for recommendations for a matt finish top coat for painted kitchen cabinets. Something with a smooth finish preferable.

An eggshell finish is probably more sensible - matt will scratch so easily no matter how durable it is.

Rub down the surface with grade 150/220.to give surfaces a key.then rub down with a turps or white spirit rag to de grease the surface then apply a solvent based egg shell.if I was doing the job and had access to spare solvent based paint.i would make up a 2 and 1 that’s 2 of under coat and 1 of gloss this is just a home made egg shell .and once back in my college days when the teacher was making up this system to paint ceramic tiles he added varnish.
