Drop in water pressure in our shower

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi We have a gravity fed system cold water tank in the loft and seperate cylinder in the airing cupboard. We also have a shower pump for our ensuite. Since replacing our ensuite, I've noticed the water pressure seems to have dropped. The only things that have changed are the shower head (now a 30cm square head. Previously it was a circular head that was probably 10/15cm) and the shower controls (the hot and cold inlets previously had a 3/4inch coupler but new one has 1/2inch that goes into the controls. The controls are fed by 15mm pipe). Are the two above things likely to have caused this, or is there another reason? Thanks in advance *reply to Jay's answer. I fitted it myself 🙄, so didn't add any inserts. I did notice inside where the couplers fitted to the inlets, there was a metal piece (half moon shape) that I didn't notice on old controls. There was also two adjusters on the front of the controls (look like the bit on an isolator valve). Could this be causing it? Thanks

Check the inlets to shower. Whoever fitted it may have fitted the water saver inserts and this will reduce pressure

Shower controls and heads require careful selection in accordance with prevailing site conditions relating to pressure and flowrate. If the wrong fittings and pipe diameter are combined the result can be a drop in pressure. The fact that the shower head is twice the size of the previous one gives and the pipe inlets are smaller gives a clue that in this instant the shower may be better suited to high pressure system. Check the specification given in the instructions.
